Extend the life and efficiency of your pool filter by following these steps to change the filter sand.

Gather materials
Determine the size of your filter and purchase the required amount of sand.

Drain the filter
Turn off the pump and remove the drain cap to let water drain from the filter.

Remove the multi-port valve
Carefully slide the valve off the sand pipe.

Remove old sand
Use a wet/dry vacuum to remove the sand from the filter.

Inspect the lateral assembly
Remove, wash, and inspect for any damage or breaks.

Refill with new sand
Add water to the filter to cover the laterals, then slowly pour in the new sand.

Reassemble & backwash
Replace the valve, run a backwash for 3 minutes, then rinse for 1 minute.

Switch to filter mode
Set the valve to “Filter” and restart the pump.
Bonus tip: Always turn off the pump before changing filter settings.

Above ground pool closing
Prepare your above ground pool for winter with these simple steps:

Add winterizing chemicals to the pool water.

Lower water level 1–2 inches below return jets.
3
Disconnect and store hoses, skimmer baskets, and return jet fittings.

Remove the pump and store it indoors.

Place a winter cover over the pool and secure it with a winch and rope.
